Based on the venerable British Pattern 58 webbing, the South African Pattern 70 webbing was used during several regional conflicts in the horn of Africa, including the Rhodesian Bush War and the South African Border War. It is easy to see why this is the case, as Pat 70 was a modular, breathable system ideally suited to the climate and landscape of Southern Africa.
Featuring rock-hard canvas construction and magazine pouches attached to every possible surface, Pattern 70 Grootsaak was designed for "bad days." The system is optimized for durability and reliability from the canvas material to the redundant, heavy stitching and chunky, metal D-rings.
The Pattern 70 Grootsaak is a spacious, stand alonepack, which size comparable to the US M1945 pack . It features a top flap covering a buttonable closure on the main pouch of the grootsaak. Additionally it features two double FAL magazine pouches on either side of the pack body along with several excess webbing loops for attaching additional equipment.
